Twas the AKOP Night Before Christmas

AKOP-AKOPXmasNight2

“Three Holiday things, one Christopher Walken: Welcome to Twas the AKOP Night Before Christmas!”

Happy Holidays to all, and to all GET PUMPED!!!!!! BRO! Soooooooo welcome to another installment of AKOP Nights wherein this episode we tackle not three holiday movies but two TV specials and one movie. We are doing things differently and why not it’s the holidays. So if you are new to AKOP Nights, here is the drill: Earl, Shawn and Patrick all pick a movie, or TV show in this case, and they have to watch all three. When each show is done they discuss the selection for your listening enjoyment. And in keeping with the Chris titling, we have a very special guest: “Christopher Walken”!

What are the three picks you ask: Well don’t let anyone know we told you but: Earl choose the recently released TV special Black Mirror/White Christmas. Patrick dove back into his childhood and picked The Muppet Family Christmas, and finally Shawn picked, of course, a Christmas horror movie in the form of Black Christmas.

Get that eggnog and shove some tinsel in your mouth because we are ready for the holidays…are you?

Let it begin…the night now.

*SPOILER WARNING: We spoil the hell out of these shows and we have to ask: If you haven’t seen either Black Mirror/White Christmas, The Muppet Family Christmas or Black Christmas then have some fun this holiday season, watch these shows, and then come back and listen to the show.

AKOP Sci-Fi Night

AKOP-scifinight

“Three Sci-Fi movies, one annoyed Shawn Lotte: Welcome to AKOP Sci-Fi Night!”

I think this is becoming a thing. Damn right this is becoming a thing and it’s blowing up, all over our faces. Earl is in charge of this month’s sinking ship as he handpicked, because toe picking is gross, three science fiction movies and subjected Shawn, Patrick and first-time guest Jess Davis to them.

If you’re wondering what the movies are, well hold on because Earl has chosen some interesting ones: First we got the indie time traveling movie Primer, then we got 80’s fueled The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and finally we have surrealist drama The Fountain.

All three hold a special place in Earl’s heart but can they break their way into the group’s cold dead hearts… well mostly Shawn’s heart is dead. The only way to find out is to listen to this month’s installment of AKOP Night: SCI FI EDITION!!!!

*SPOILER WARNING: We spoil the hell out of these movies and as much as they are older Sci Fi movies we have to ask: If you haven’t seen either Primer, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai or The Fountain then have some fun this November, watch these movies, and then come back and listen to the show.

Let it begin…the show now!

Audio notes: (1hr. 25min. runtime)
0:02:00 – Primer, dryness, and being incomprehensible
0:27:10 – Buckaroo Banzai, the ’80s, and screenwriting 101
0:53:10 – The Fountain, being inaccessible,  fantasy, and surprise reactions
1:15:35 – Final thoughts, frames of reference, and cult classics

Spooky AKOP Night

AKOP-spookynight

“Three horror movies, one scared Earl Aspiras: Welcome to AKOP Spooky Nights!”

Let me tell you a tale, a tale about a man named Earl Aspiras who told a another man, Shawn Lotte, he was scared of horror movies. He was so scared, in fact, he hasn’t seen very many purely out sheer fear. Shawn proposed to him an idea, an idea that would change his life forever: AKOP Spooky Nights.

We present to you a new frontier in All Kinds of Philler: Presented to Earl are three different horror movies, each one representing a different aspect of the genre. Then we sit him down and watch him cry. Not really, but we do discuss each film in depth with returning guest Patrick Barfoot and delve into a genre that Earl is not proficient in.

Get ready for some great in depth analysis of three horror films sure to set the mood for Halloween – that may haunt Earl for the rest of his life.

*SPOILER WARNING: We spoil the hell out of these movies and as much as they are older horror movies we have to ask: If you haven’t seen either Hellraiser, The Thing (1982) or Child’s Play then have some fun this Halloween, watch these movies, and then come back and listen to the show.

Let it begin…the show now!
